WAG of the Week

As I’m sure you’ve read in this week’s Moment in History, the Spanish Grand Prix marks the anniversary of Schumacher’s first win with Ferrari. To celebrate we are going to explore Schumacher’s love life. A fiercely private individual, Schumacher tried to keep his personal life and racing life separate. But nothing escapes us here at the F1 Newsletter, so we are bringing you an exclusive look at Michael Schumacher’s wife, Corinna Schumacher.

Corinna Schumacher, born Corinna Betsch, is a 48-year-old German born in Halver, North Rhine-Westphalia. When Michael and Corinna first met in 1991, Corinna was actually dating another man named Alan Heinz-Harald. That didn’t stop the the first time Formula One driver from winning Corinna over, however, and the two soon kicked off a whirl wind romance. The German couple eventually decided to marry on August 1st, 1995 in a civil ceremony in Kerpen, Germany.

Two years later on February 20th, 1997 Corinna gave birth to their first child a girl they named Gina Maria. Two years after that, yet another child. This one a boy name Mick. Michael and Corinna are still together today, but as I’m sure you have heard, this is where the story turns tragic. In December 2013, while skiing with his son Mick, Michael fell and hit his head. Despite wearing a helmet, Michael sustained a severe head injury and is still dealing with that injury today. Corinna has been by his side throughout the ordeal and has taken control of the Schumacher business empire. In fact, Corinna recently sold Michael’s £25 million jet and vacation home after coming to the realization that he will ‘never fully recover to enjoy them again.’ How is that for a Friday pick me up?
