Track Talking

Is there even enough room on the inside of turn 16 to cut the corner?

First things first. What the hell FIA? That five second penalty levied on young Max Verstappen was ridiculous. Preposterous. These guys are driving Formula One cars. Let them race. If I wanted to watch teams start and end in a predetermined order then I’d watch the NBA. And for all those nerds that want to chirp me about rules and white lines I say put a sock in it. I’m all about rules if the FIA can consistently apply them.  Cars were running off track all weekend, so don’t single out Max Verstappen just because he passed big bad Ferrari.

But enough about that. Let’s talk about my major gripe from last weekend and with Formula One in general. Why are we making such a big deal about podiums? Youngest driver to be on the podium. Most podiums this year. Consecutive podiums. I’ve had enough. Did you win the race? Oh you didn’t? Because that is all I care about. As the great Dale Earnhardt once said, “Second place is just the first place loser.” Damn straight, Dale. So, second and third place, take your world championship points and head home. Stop acting like you won the race.

Editors Note: I would say stop spraying yourself with champagne, but I like that ritual too much.
