I’m a yuuge fan of the Melbourne course. Mostly because it is the first race, and we haven’t heard the sound of an F1 engine in far too long. It is kind of like those people where the last movie they saw is always their favorite movie. In case you were wondering, I watched Jackie last weekend, and it was just OK.
I am the same way with F1 courses, and since I have been pouring over game tape from recent Australia Grand Prix, I’ve got Melbourne on the mind. It has all the makings of a good course – there are turns, straight aways, and a pit lane. Really can’t ask for more, but let’s take a look at Lewis Hamilton’s pole position lap from 2015 if you don’t believe me.
Here is what I like – a nice straight-away right off the bat, which should help separate the frauds from the real drivers. Looks like the drivers will have to act quickly before they are met with a narrow bit of track, and then a quick two turns. Melbourne does not seem overly complicated. Although it is a “street course”, it is not trying to be Monaco. It is a perfect way to start the season.
